The latest ecoDa EU Update has been released, featuring key legislative developments and a letter from our Director General:
- Sustainability Omnibus: The EU lawmakers have reached a political agreement on the Sustainability Omnibus, adjusting key thresholds in EU corporate reporting legislation. The agreement will be reviewed by EU ambassadors on 10 December. This will be followed by committee and plenary votes in the European Parliament on 11 and 16 December, respectively. Please see: a Council non-paper has already outlined the first Omnibus I compromise text.
- At the same time, EFRAG has submitted the revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) to the European Commission, which aims to adopt them by next summer. To support implementation, the ESRS now incorporate a more flexible “fair presentation” principle (as advocated by ecoDa), new proportionality mechanisms to prevent excessive burden, and clearer guidance on materiality assessments, including the option for a top-down approach.
- Looking ahead to 2026, the European Commission faces a demanding legislative agenda. The Digital Omnibus Simplification Package, including an initial proposal focused on the AI Act, must be finalized by 2 August 2026. This will be followed by the major revision of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), expected to be finalized by the fourth quarter of 2026. In addition, the Clean Industrial Deal implementation package will be a key priority for the first quarter of 2026. Please see a leaked draft of the Commission’s agenda.
