The latest ecoDa EU Update has been released, featuring key legislative developments and a letter from our Director General:

  • The European Parliament’s rejection of the mandate to move the Omnibus Regulation directly into trilogue negotiations has delayed its progress, allowing political groups to propose amendments before a new vote on 13 November. This uncertainty could force compromises that weaken the regulation, particularly if the EPP resists stronger civil liability provisions, potentially pushing rapporteur Ms Warborn to seek far-right support. For businesses, this delay heightens concerns around regulatory predictability and underscores the urgency of finalizing the Omnibus Regulation before year-end to safeguard market stability and legal clarity.
  • At the same time, discussions across the EU’s corporate governance landscape reflect growing concern that overregulation has hindered flexibility and innovation. Experts are calling for a renewed emphasis on “soft law” principles and greater reliance on self-regulation through a potential EU-level Corporate Governance Code.
  • The OECD’s Corporate Governance Factbook 2025 highlights global trends toward increased transparency, investor influence, and sustainability assurance, with 90% of jurisdictions now mandating sustainability disclosures.
  • ecoDa has contributed to two key CSRD-related topics: opposing arbitrary caps in value chain assessments in favor of risk-based materiality analysis, and advocating for a “fair presentation” framework in the revised ESRS to enhance comparability and prevent a compliance-only approach.
  • Additionally, insights from the recent ecoDa–Forvis Mazars webinar underscored that while auditor rotation can strengthen independence, market concentration remains a concern and technology-driven audits continue to entail significant costs. Participants agreed that maintaining audit quality requires professional skepticism, careful planning of tender processes,  preserving expertise within audit teams and good interaction with audit committees.
